Does a purchase and sales agreement for a house need to be in writing?
The Statute of Frauds is a legal principle that requires certain types of contracts to be in writing. Different states have codified it with more specifics or slightly different requirements, or have adapted the Uniform Commercial Code. In general, any contract dealing with land (sale or lease), any contract that will be one year or longer and any contract dealing with goods and services over $500 needs to be in writing.
